A child who knows their parent volunteers, even if they don’t see them, knows their parent values education. That child is vastly more likely to value education themselves.

Classroom Liaison: Responsible for coordinating the volunteers in your child’s classroom. You will work with the teacher to ensure that all volunteer positions are filled. This is a year-long commitment but it is a great way to meet other parents and help your child’s teacher.
General Classroom Assistance: Support your child’s classroom by helping the teacher. There is always production work to be done (making copies and general clerical work). Many teachers ask for help processing homework folders each week. The early grades ask for volunteers to read to or with students. Help is needed to plan classroom parties, chaperone field trips. Sign up for as little or as much as your schedule allows. The classroom liaison will work with the teacher to find out what is needed.
Art Literacy: A parent-run program that provides a hands-on way for kids to learn art history. As a volunteer, you will learn about the world’s most talented and influential artists and teach our students what you learn. You will do a creative project inspired by each artist with the students. You do not need to be an artist to be involved in this program- just have an interest in learning about art and a desire to get involved in your child’s classroom. The program offers six lessons a year. Whether you would love to teach or would rather be a helper, Art Literacy would love your help.
Watch D.O.G.S: Dads Of Great Students is a nationally recognized program to bring adult male presence into the schools. Bethany has participated in the program in the past. It’s a great way for dads/grandpas/big brothers to volunteer and encourage positive behavior at recess, lunch, before and after school. Volunteer daily, monthly, however it fits your schedule.
Library Volunteer: Assist the school librarian in helping children check our books, cataloging and shelving books.
Book Fair: Help set up/take down the twice annual book fair. Assist students and parents with finding and purchasing books.
Bobcat Boosters/Dinners Night Out: Assist with coordinating restaurants and services that benefit Bethany by returning a percentage of income generated back to the school.
Boxtops and Labels for Education: Assist with the collection of the Boxtops and Labels collected by students.
Clothes Closet: This is one of Bethany Elementary’s community service projects each year. We staff the Beaverton School District’s Clothes Closet, which provides clothes to K-12 students in financial need. We staff the Clothes Closet one day on a weekend, usually in the Spring. It is located next to the Beaverton School District Administrative Offices. Also assist with laundering clothes left in Lost & Found, 2-3 times a year so that they can be donated to the Clothes Closet.
Curb Side Valet: Assist students out of the cars during morning drop off, to help maintain the flow of traffic through the parking lot 7:45-8:00am. Regular, weekly or monthly commitment preferred.
Garden Club Leaders: Help bring the garden to life for students! Like to work with students? Join us for the after school garden club. Like to get your hands dirty? Weed, water and plant during garden work party or seed planting days. Like to organize? Take on the planning of any one of our numerous school year garden events!
Field Day: Assist Mr. Stoller with running games and distributing tickets/prizes. Outside activity, shifts are a couple hours and occur in June, usually one of the last few school days.
Geography Quest Committee: A parent run program that introduces our students to world geography. Students will study at home and volunteers will quiz them once a month. Volunteers are needed on the last instructional Wednesday of the month to quiz the students. The testing will occur from 8:15-10:30am. Come join the fun!! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. And you can always stay and join your child for lunch. 1st grade or kinder usually have one of the first lunch blocks.
Movie Nights: Help keep movie nights running smoothly (4+ scheduled during school year) by watching exit/entrance doors, helping with set up and clean up. Usually takes about 20 minutes before and after each movie with sufficient helpers.
Jog-a-thon/Bobcat Blast Chair/Committee: Plan BSPTO’s spring fundraiser to be held in May. Traditionally, this is a large fundraising opportunity for Bethany. We hope you’ll volunteer your organizing and creative talents and help out this year!
Staff Appreciation Committee: Assist the committee with the distribution of tokens of appreciation to Bethany staff throughout the year. Usual times of activity are the beginning of school, conference time, and staff appreciation week in May.
Variety Show: Volunteers are needed to help with try-outs, organization of acts and rehearsals. Previous Variety Shows were held in February.
Haunted Hallway: Volunteers help the 5th graders decorate the hallway before movie night in October.
Yearbook/Photographers: Assist in photographing classroom/school activities throughout the year (field trips, parties, special events) for the yearbook, which is distributed in June. We need an editor for the yearbook as well as help compiling the photos/ordering yearbooks and distribution.
Parent Teacher Organization Meetings and Board Positions: Meetings are typically the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at Bethany Elementary. Attending the meeting is the BEST way to find out what’s happening.
